MacDonald identifies the overstruck coin as a tetradrachm of Myrina in Ionia; it is much more likely a tetradrachm of Perseus or Athens  +
Tetradrachms of Lysimachus are the only ones in the area to have that kind of diadem  +
"Overstruck on an issue in the types of Alexander III of Macedon" (nb: could be any head as the Zeus on the obverse of Apamea)  +
"This coin was overstruck on an earlier issue of Apameia in Syria (HGC 9, 1419) with Zeus's head still visible on the obverse"  +
"overstruck on uncertain issue (as usual for this type). Because nearly all of the known examples of this issue are overstruck on other coins, Kovacs suggests that it may have been struck as an emergency issue during Mark Antony's invasion in 34 BC"  +
The weight is twice the average of the other overstrikes; the serrati fabric is indicative of a Seleucid origin  +
"Overstruck on unknown host" (nb: lips of a head visible on the obverse - unlikely to be a double strike)  +
"with minor marks and traces of overstriking, otherwise, very fine" (nb: see laurel wreath on the obverse and the upper inner l. field of the reverse)  +
The old attribution to Decimus Iunius Silanus Manlianus, Praetor (142/141 BCE) is refuted by MacKay.  +
